A whole new set of problems
So today brings new teaching concepts for October and a whole new set of issues. Alison, who is in 7th grade has been diagnosed with Dyshidrotic Eczema. She has painful bumps on her hands and scaling, making it impossible to type or write. Now I get to rewrite her lesson plan for more reading and oral work. Wish me luck.

Just to say hello.....
So I finally decided to get myself together and start a blog. I might as well introduce myself. I am a mom of 3 kids living at home. My husband was in the navy for 20 years, so we lived all over. Now that he is retired, we have settled outside of Topeka, Kansas, where his family lives. After realizing how much the public school system was failing our kids, we decided to homeschool. This is our first year. Now, we are not doing it for religious reasons, which seems to exclude us from alot of curriculum and support.
Another challenge we face is that we currently live with his parents, strong (and vocal) christians. We are not raising our kids that way, more toward humanists. This blog is a study in our challenges, triumphs, and maybe just a little coffee talk for my sanity.
